Coupon 101


In order to get started in the couponing world there are a few basic terms one needs to know in order to peruse the deals and steals:

+Up -
Reward issued at Rite Aid (requires Rite Aid Wellness card).

B1G1/BOGO -
Buy one get one.

Blinkie -
Coupons from dispensers commonly found in grocery stores, usually near the associated product.

Catalina -


Coupon that prints out at the register so named for the corporation that issues them.  Can be either money off of a certain product or money off of a total purchase coupon.

ECB -
Extra Care Buck, only issued at CVS (requires CVS card).

P&G -
Proctor & Gamble

Peelie -
Coupon found on items in the store.

RA -
Rite Aid.

RP -
Red Plum

RR -
Register Reward, Catalina type coupon issued only at Walgreens.

Roll -
Term used to describe using store rewards (i.e. +Up, ECB’s or Register Rewards) to purchase other items issuing rewards in order to reinvest them and avoid losing them to those pesky expiration dates.

SS -
Smart Source

Stack -

Some stores will issue their own coupons; most of the time they will allow you to “stack” this with another manufacturer coupon to maximize savings.

VV -
Rite Aid’s Video Values coupon.

WYB -
When you buy.

YMMV -
Your mileage may vary, meaning it may be up to your cashier/store manager’s judgment.
